A different kind of yoga studio.

We’re aware that the predominant culture and image of yoga is a fitness class of able bodied young (20-30s) white women.

AND

Together we can expand what yoga looks like, for all of us to feel good in our bodies and souls.

This is where we’re going.

Join us?

We are committed to asking questions and applying critical thinking to the movement, philosophy, and traditions we translate into our classes while honoring the roots of the yoga practice as they have been handed down despite oppression and hardship.  We are committed to learning with you about your body and supporting your journey of awareness and acceptance of all the layers of your being through adaptive and appropriate movement and holding space for you to breathe and observe yourself.

We are in-process community of inclusion.  We commit to hearing, supporting, and cultivating equality for marginalized folx in our midst and work for justice outside of our studio through financial contributions to awesome causes, hosting accessible events, and continuing education.  We are working to uplift more types of voices in the front of the classroom, including larger bodies, people of color, trans/queer identities, different ages, etc.  We are building classes that offer exclusive spaces such as: Yoga for Larger Bodies, Yoga in ASL, Perinatal Classes, and Chair Yoga.

We are learning about whiteness, colonialism, and the dominant culture of yoga in the West and working to un-do harmful practices embedded in the system and in our business.  We commit to listening and repairing harm where it is felt because of our words or actions.  Any situations can be emailed to hello@numiyoga.com or you can arrange a call or meeting with the owner and anyone you’d like to include.
